Military Medal 'For bravery under fire, endurance and devotion to duty during every evacuation since coming to FRANCE in June 1916, and particularly throughout the Australian Attack on NOREUIL and the HINDENBURG LINE, near BULLECOURT, 5th April to 12th April 1917. When this unit was at FLERS in December last this man was placed on Light duty from the Bearers to the horse Lines on account of an Exostosis of his right Os Calsis, but when this Unit went into action on this recent occasion he reverted to the Bearers at his own request indicating that his foot occasioned him no troubled - his Section Sergeant noticed him to be carrying on though exceedingly lame and not complaining at all - he was sent off duty at the latter end of the evacuation and investigation showed his FOOT to be badly inflamed - this man displayed great heroism in thus sticking to his work when he should certainly have gone off duty.'
