Embarked Sydney, 30 September 1915; disembarked Egypt, 31 October 1915. Taken on strength, 17th Bn, 10 January 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, 18 August 1916 (needle in leg: accidental: soldier did not claim that he was on duty at the time); transferred to England, 3 September 1916, and admitted to 1st King George Hospital, Newcastle-on-Tyne, 4 September 1916 (synovitis, knee: slight). Discharged on furlough, 31 October 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 15 November 1916, not later than 3.30 pm.

Proceeded overseas to France, 13 December 1916. Found guilty, 26 December 1916, of being out of bounds: awarded 14 days confined to camp. Rejoined Bn, 23 January 1917.

Missing in action, 15 April 1917. Subsequently determined to have been captured at Lagnicourt, and to be a prisoner of war, interned at Wahn, Germany.

Repatriated from Germany; arrived in England, 30 December 1918.

Granted furlough to 3 February 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Khyber', 31 March 1919; disembarked Sydney, 14 May 1919; discharged, Sydney, 9 July 1919.
