'During the morning of 8th August, 1918 east of VILLERS BRETONNEUX, near AMIENS, on his section becoming separated from the Section Commander Private NOLAN at once took charge, and single handed rushed an enemy machine gun post on the left flank, killing two, and taking four prisoners. After mopping up the post he led his men on to their objective, the whole time using his Lewis Gun with deadly effect on the enemy.'
