Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when the enemy attempted to raid a group of posts of which he was in charge. The enemy put down a very heavy barrage, which cut off all communication, and then attacked in force. By his excellent organization and leadership he repelled the attack, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy and capturing two prisoners. He set a magnificent example to his men.'
