'For gallant service on night of 4th/5th March 1918 during raid on enemy trenches in vicinity of WARNETON. He had charge of one of the assaulting parties and exhibited splendid courage and determination in fighting his way through the trench leading to his objective, and ultimately in mopping up his objective.'
