Military Medal 'During attack east of ZONNEBEKE on 9th October, 1917, this N.C.O. was in charge of the Lewis Guns of his Company. He continually visited the Lewis Gun positions throughout the operations moving about under continually heavy barrages and attending to his guns. on two occasions when his positions had been blown out and members of the team buried, he showed great courage and initiative in digging the men out under most distressing circumstances and heedless of his own safety, quickly established new positions and consolidated the guns. His gallantry and cheerfulness throughout was most marked and inspired the men with the greatest degree of confidence.'
