Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the action east of YPRES from 18th to 21st September, 1917. This man as a runner delivered despatches of utmost importance to forward Battalion Headquarters continuously under very heavy shell fire. His zeal and determination in getting the despatches through in a minimum space of time was of great value to the Commanding Officers.'
