'Is brought under notice for splendid work and gallantry during operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. When the Red Line was very heavily shelled, he by his cool example steadied the men around him. At one time the enemy barrage was so heavy that the trenches were being obliterated. This man appreciated the situation and getting those around him together, he led them out to the front and into shell holes where they were safer. He thereby saved many casualties. He is recommended for distinction.'
