'Bravery and devotion to duty at VILLERS BRETONNEUX, 24th April to 24th/27th April 1918. During the advance on the night 24th/25th April 1918 despite heavy casualties he showed fine determination in getting his guns successfully into action. He continually attended to wounded under heavy shell-fire and accompanied his Sergeant on forward reconnaissances in No Man's Land to locate hostile machine guns. His example of cheerfulness and contempt of danger was exemplary.'
