Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In command of his platoon, he made a successful reconnaissance in force, in spite of adverse weather conditions and heavy shell fire, and established an outpost line on ground gained. Later, when the enemy gained a footing in the line, he led his platoon forward, and by his personal courage and leadership he drove back the enemy, and re-established the line.'
