Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his platoon to the attack with great gallantry, afterwards commanding his company during a counter-attack. He also made a daring reconnaissance single-handed of an enemy post, which he surprised, killing two and capturing the remaining twenty when his party came up. He set a very fine example throughout.'
