Military Medal 'During and prior to the minor operation carried out South West of MORLANCOURT by the 8th Australian Infantry Brigade on the night of 28th/29th July 1918 this N.C.O. rendered most valuable service under trying conditions of weather and enemy action. On the night of the attack he was to take a mortar forward with the second wave, and in addition to his gun team a carrying party of 10 to get his Stokes shells forward. Casualties occurred in this party in crossing 'No Man's Land', by fearless energy he rallied the party and got his mortar and ammunition into position from where he was able to bring fire to bear on enemy targets and his S.O.S. line, thus assisting materially in consolidating the newly captured position. He cheerfully maintained his party until relieved 48 hours later.'
