'Near WARNETON, during a raid on the enemy on the night 30th November/1st December 1917, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man acted as a bomber during the raid and showed great judgment and disregard of danger. His dash in clearing the trenches materially assisted his party and he set a fine example to all. Strength of raiding party - 4 officers and 82 other ranks.'
