Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. On 1 October, 1918, he was in charge of a patrol reconnoitring south west of Damascus, and with great daring penetrated well into the town, notwithstanding severe sniping which was taking place from orchards and behind hedges. As a result of this and similar reconnaissances, the regiment was able to move into the town and take over 10,000 prisoners and much war material.'
