'In the attack near LE VERGUIER on 18th September, 1918, this Sapper was one of a reconnaissance party which accompanied the attacking Infantry. He displayed great coolness in the search for land mines, and in the examination of deep dugouts for booby traps. Owing to his thoroughness and care a number of the former were found, the detonators removed, and the mines rendered harmless. It was largely owing to his zeal and energy that valuable information was obtained, enabling important work to be commenced without delay.'
