'For devotion to duty on special work on Machine Gun emplacements on Front line. All dangerous work on top of parapets and front to the loop hole is carried out by himself. Also for going out in Front of parapet and cutting down a tree which blocked the Fire of Machine Gun. The enemy's Machine Guns were playing on our wire at this point.'
