'During the attack on POLYGON WOOD on 20th September, 1917, Sapper PARKER displayed conspicuous gallantry in carrying out his duties as linesman. At a critical time during the attack the buried cabled route was blown out between two test points. Sapper PARKER immediately went out in a very heavy enemy barrage and effected repairs. He remained continuously on duty for 48 hours, during which time he did very valuable work.'
