Found guilty, 29 December 1916, of being absent without leave from Billets from 11 am till 12.30 pm on 26 December 1916: awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No 2. Wounded in action, 31 January 1917; admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 1 February 1917 (gun shot wound, left forearm); transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 2 February 1917; rejoined unit, 15 February 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 31 May 1917. Detached to Bombing Course, Morebecque, Belgium, 8 July 1917; rejoined unit, 30 July 1917.
