'On the morning of the 4th October, 1917, at Advanced Regimental Aid Post (Right Sector) East of YPRES, with Private BARNES W.H., he went out under heavy shell fire to get a wounded man who was in a shell hole about half a mile from the Regimental Aid Post and assisted in rendering First Aid and brought the wounded man to the Regimental Aid Post. During the day he rendered First Aid to a number of men, who were wounded on the road between the Regimental Aid Post and FROST HOUSE, Relay Post, and assisted to bring them to shelter during heavy shell fire. he showed great courage and devotion to duty, and set a great example to the other men in his squad.'
