Military Medal

'At ZONNEBEKE on the 9th October 1917, Gunner PATERSON was telephonist to the F.O.O. and accompanied him throughout the entire Operation, at all times showing a most courageous disposition and an utter disregard for personal safety. Telephonic communication was maintained with Group under mos trying circumstances including very heavy enemy barrages, and valuable information transmitted. This man's work was of a very high order and I strongly recommend him for award.'
