Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations EAST OF YPRES 4/6 October, 1917. He acted as despatch carrier and although the enemy put up many barrages he succeeded in delivering his despatches at all times . Once while delivering a despatch an enemy strong post was observed to be not taken, he succeeded in.............the enemy out of it and although wounded he remained at his duty until the battalion was relieved. He set a fine example throughout.'
