Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near BONY from 29th September to 2nd October 1918. He was one of a party which stormed and captured CLAYMORE TRENCH and subsequently this Non Commissioned Officer made a successful reconnaissance under intense machine gun and shell fire of a sunken road in CLAYMORE VALLEY, which materially assisted his Company Commander and saved many casualties. His utter fearlessness and determination to succeed during the final advance on the HINDENBURG LINE engendered a wonderful spirit of confidence among his comrades. Later, he led ration parties over difficult and reconnoitred country under heavy fire and so enabled hot rations to reach his company regularly and in the minimum of time.'
