Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in Battle of YPRES (Phase 5) 12th October 1917. When all his Company Stretcher Bearers had become casualties he volunteered for duty, and worked continuously for 48 hours under heavy enemy Artillery and Machine Gun fire, bandaging and carrying back wounded in some cases to a distance of 2000 yards over extremely difficult country in spite of exhaustion he refused to leave the line and continued on duty for 6 days.'
