War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane, 7 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 2 November 1916; marched in to 7th Training Bn, Rollestone, 21 November 1916. Found guilty, Rollestone, 5 December 1916, of being absent without leave from 2400, 30 November, till reporting at 2400, 3 December 1916: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 13 December 1916; taken on strength, 25th Bn, in the field, 5 February 1917. Admitted to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, 21 February 1917 (diarrhoea), and transferred to Ambulance Train; admitted to No 1 Convalescent Depot, 1 March 1917; discharged to Base Depot, 14 March 1917; admitted to Isolation Hospital, 17 March 1917; transferred to 24th General Hospital, 20 March 1917 (not yet diagnosed); to England, 29 March 1917, and admitted to Reading War Hospital, 30 March 1917 (dysentery: slight); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 10 July 1917 (chronic indigestion); discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 19 July 1917.
