Proceeded overseas to France, 20 August 1917; taken on strength, 23rd Bn, 1 September 1917. Wounded in action, 20 September 1917 (gas blister), and admitted tp 6th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 17th Casualty Clearing Station, 20 September 1917, and then by Ambulance Train No 24 to 10th General Hospital, Rouen; admitted, 21 September 1917. Transferred to England, 19 October 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Monyhull, 20 October 1917 (gassed: severe); discharged, 2 November 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 3 November 1917.
