War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

Evacuated to Egypt from Gallipoli with malaria, 31 August 1915; invalided to Australia on board 'Themistocles', December 1915. Embarked from Australia on board 'Port Lincoln' as Sergeant, 3rd Reinforcements, 60th Bn, 4 May 1916. Landed in Egypt, transshipped on board 'Franconia' to England; marched in to 15th Training Brigade, Salisbury Plain.

Joined 59th Bn in France, 7 January 1917. Proceeded on duty to England, July 1917; returned to France, January 1918. Wounded in action, 5 April 1918; evacuated to No 3 London General Hospital, Wandsworth; rejoined 59th Bn, August 1918.

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

Also served in World War II: enlisted as a Private in the 8th Division, 2nd AIF, and was taken prisoner at Singapore, February 1942.
