Military Medal 'On 1st March, 1917, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a bombing attack which captured a strong point in LAYTON LANE. During the counter attack this N.C.O. inspired great confidence in his men. He held on to a barricade until he was wounded. His daring and leadership kept the enemy in check, and Lewis guns which had stoppages, could be withdrawn.'
