Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, Gallipoli, 8 September 1915; transferred to No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 2 October 1915 (diarrhoea); to St Paul's Hospital, Malta, 10 October 1915; embarked for Egypt, 2 December 1915; disembarked Alexandria, 6 December 1915; returned to duty, 17th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 20 January 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 31 July 1916.

Wounded in action, 31 July 1916 (gassed), and admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance; transferred to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 3 August 1916; returned to duty, 16 August 1916.

Admitted to 50th Casualty Clearing Station, 21 September 1916 (scabies); returned to duty, 25 September 1916.

Admitted to 1st Australian Rest Station, 18 December 1916; rejoined Bn, 14 January 1917.
