'For conspicuous gallantry while commanding a platoon during an attack. Discovering a party of the enemy in a house in front of his post, he went forward, with one man, under cover of Lewis gun fire, and after throwing a bomb into the house rushed it and captured nine prisoners. He showed splendid dash and resourcefulness.'
