Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. When his section sergeant had been killed he took charge of the section, and directed the work under very heavy fire with total disregard of persdonal danger.'

Discovering a party of the enemy in a house in front of his post, he went forward, with one man, under cover of Lewis gun fire, and after throwing a bomb into the house rushed it and captured nine prisoners. He showed splendid dash and resourcefulness.'
