Medals |
Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and initiative at MONT de MERRIS near STRAZEELE, Frane, on 14th April, 1918. During a powerful enemy attack which was launched against this ridge he took up and position 200 yards forward of the Company line of resistance with his Lewis Gun and inflicted heavy casualties on the advancing waves. He continued firing until the enemy were within 150 yards of him and then withdrew to the Company Lines. Here he took up an exposed position to secure a better field of fire and again did great execution. He was under heavy fire throughout and showed conspicuous gallantry and initiative. He was severely wounded in the head whilst at his gun.'
