Military Medal

'During the operations near BELLICOURT from 30th September to 2nd October 1918 this man displayed marked courage and resource. When his Company had lost touch with the Company on its flank he volunteered to cross ground very heavily swept by machine gun fire to re-establish connection, this he succeeded in doing so averting what might easily have turned into a very critical situation. Later when one of his Officers was lying seriously wounded near an enemy Strong Post he accompanied a stretcher bearer out and succeeded in bringing him in a distance of 300 yards under heavy rifle and machine gun fire.'
