Embarked Sydney, 31 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 29 March 1917; taken on strength, 9th Field Company Engineers, 9 April 1917.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 30 June 1917 (tachycardia); transferred to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 1 July 1917; to England, 8 July 1917, and admitted to 1st General Military Hospital, Colchester; to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 29 August 1917; to No 4 Command Depot, Codford, 4 September 1917; to Overseas Training Brigade, 27 October 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 December 1917; rejoined unit, 8 December 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 18 October 1918. On leave to England, 3 November 1918; rejoined unit, 20 November 1918. Marched out to England, 21 April 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Themistocles', 12 June 1919; disembarked Sydney, 10 August 1919; discharged, 19 September 1919.
