Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery on night of 11th/12th October, 1917, near ZONNEBEKE, when the buried cable route connecting both Brigades in line to Division and also to all their forward positions, was cut by shell fire. Corporal PETERSEN took his party out and found the crater in the dark and in spite of the heavy shelling in the vicinity of SANS SOUCI, where the break was, he stuck to his work all night and succeeded in getting lines through at 5 a.m. in time for the attack at 5.25 a.m., 12th October, 1917. On 19th October, 1917, Corporal PETERSEN was in charge of laying the cable for a new buried route at MOULIN FARM, when he was badly wounded in the arm, but remained on duty until his work was completed and he was then carried away on a stretcher and evacuated.'
