Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when his platoon was held up by a strong post during the attack on Allaines on 2 September 1918. He advanced with his Lewis gun under intense fire to within 50 yards of the post, and with neutralizing fire enabled the men of the platoon to rush it, capturing six officers and sixty other ranks. Although wounded he kept his gun in action until the situation was clear.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 67 Date: Military Medal 'With his Lewis Gun team of three men, this soldier encountered an enemy machine gun post during the attack South of WARFUSEE ABANCOURT, near AMIENS, on the 8th August 1918. He accounted for the enemy post, capturing the gun and killing the crew. His own men being wounded Private PETERSON carried his Lewis Gun and panniers on, and was able to kill many of the enemy after gaining our final objective. This man's conduct all through the operation commencing on the 8th August 1918 until 11th August 1918 has been most conspicuous for bravery.'
