Military Cross 'During the operations against the Hindenburg line, near Bellicourt, on 29th September 1918, he was in charge of a forward road party, clearing and maintaining a tactical road. Although subjected to heavy shell and machine gun fire, many of his party becoming casualties, his courageous bearing and personal effort set a great example to the men, and materially assisted in the successful execution of the work under most trying conditions.'
