'During the preparations for the offensive along the MENIN ROAD on 20th September, 1917, Sgt. BLACKBURN was engaged nightly conducting convoys of material to HOOGE along a heavily shelled road. He set a splended example fo resourcefulness and devotion to duty, inspiring his men with confidence and was successful in getting forward much valuable material.'
