War service: Western Front Embarked from Brisbane, 21 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 10 January 1917. Admitted to hospital, Parkhouse, 25 February 1917 (mumps). Marched out to 3rd Training Bn, Durrington, 16 March 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 22 May 1917; taken on strength, 49th Bn, 21 June 1917. Sustained accidental injury in the field (sprained ankle), 24 September 1917; rejoined unit, 2 November 1917. Treated at 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 14 November 1918 (gonorrhoea); transferred to No. 1 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 17 November 1918; to 39th General Hospital, Rouen, 18 November 1918; to England, 15 January 1919, and admitted to No. 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford. Discharged to Training Depot, Parkhouse, 30 January 1919; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 78 days.
