'During the operations east of YPRES on 20th September 1917, Pte. PINKERTON who is a linesman on the Battalion Signalling Section did exceptionally good work repairing lines. The unfailing devotion to duty, the immediate response to the lightest order, the absolute disregard of self which this man displayed, earnt the admiration of all who saw him at work. Many times he had to go forward to repair breaks and one occasion was out for two hours whilst our barrage was answering an S.O.S. signal.'
