War service: Egypt, Western Front Detached to 1st Anzac Corps School of Instruction, 1 May 1917. On leave to England, 11 July 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 26 July 1917. Found guilty, 2 October 1917, of when on Active Service being absent without leave in that he was absent from his quarters from 9.30 pm, 30 September, till 11 am, 1 October 1917: awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of 2 days' pay under Royal Warrant; total forfeiture: 7 days' pay. Marched out with advanced party to 19th Corps School, 2 February 1918. Taken on strength, 58th Bn, in the field, 17 March 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 23 July 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 13 August 1918. Killed in action (struck in the head by a machine gun bullet), 29 September 1918.
