At the attack on WESTHOEK RIDGE on 20th September 1917 - as N.C.O. in charge of the Company Stretcher Bearers, he did magnificient work and showed absolute contempt for danger or personal safety. He worked without ceasing whilst there were wounded. On one occasion having run out of bandages, he went through a very heavy enemy barrage to secure fresh supplies to carry on his fine work.
