Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 15th October, 1917, after having delivered his own loads of ammunition to his battery near ZONNEBEKE under heavy shell fire and over almost impassable ground. On returning he heard that another driver had been wounded on his way to the battery. Driver POPE immediately turned back and in spite of the continued heavy fire, found, and picked up the ammunition in charge of this wounded driver and delivered that also to his battery.'
