Military Medal

'This N.C.O., whilst in charge of a Lewis Gun during the advance on enemy defences EAST of JEANCOURT on morning of 18th September 1918 was noticed for his courage and determination. When his platoon was held up by enemy Machine gun fire he dashed forward to a flank in face of deadly fire from the enemy and silenced their guns, thereby allowing his platoon to continue the advance. Again, whilst advancing, he rushed forward firing his Lewis gun from the hip, and inflicted heavy casualties on the retiring enemy. By his capable handling of his gun, initiative and bravery, he set a magnificent example and is worthy of recognition.'
