Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action and devotion to duty. On 24th April, 1918, near RIBEMONT, when the enemy attacked, this soldier went out through a very heavy enemy barrage repairing broken lines without regard for his personal safety, and thinking only of the necessity of maintaining communications. He worked continuously under this heavy fire for 41/2 hours and for 11/2 hours had to wear his gas mask, in order to repair lines and enable messages to be transmitted. His personal bravery was a great incentive to his comrades and although the line was cut by enemy fire, as fast as he could repair it, his perseverance and devotion in such trying and dangerous circumstances was the admiration of all ranks who saw him. He has previously been mentioned in despatches for his good work.'
