War service: Western Front Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Pekeha', 6 October 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 16 November 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Perth, 31 December 1919. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal Elected to Federal Parliament in 1934 as Independent Member for the Northern Territory. Also served in World War II: enlisted 6 July 1940 (having reduced age from 46 to 43 to comply with regulations for professional men); captured in Singapore and remained a prisoner of war until 1945 (the only Federal MP to be captured); discharged, 23 January 1946, as NX5669, Sergeant, 2/12th Field Company. |
