Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations of the 26th and 27th August 1918, which resulted in the capture of FOUCAUCOURT. This man belonged to a Platoon of the left attacking Company and when his Platoon Commander became a casualty shortly before reaching the final objective, he displayed great initiative and rendered every assistance to his Commander by taking charge of the men near him, and carrying on the fight. Shortly afterwards he was severely wounded, but would not leave his Platoon until he had re-organised his men and consolidated on the objective. He set a fine example of devotion to duty to all members of his Platoon, and when carried away was suffering severely.'
