Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 10th day of August 1918 at LIHONS. During the attack, after all his Company Officers had become casualties, this N.C.O. assumed command of his Company. He made valuable reconnaissances and carried on the attack, leading his men with great skill and daring. During the re-organisation and consolidation of his men, Corporal POWELL was everywhere directing operations and cheering his Company with utter disregard of personal safety. He set a magnificent example to all ranks.'
