War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 25 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917. Found guilty, Sutton Mandeville, 23 February 1917, of disgraceful conduct - urinating against canteen: awarded 2 days' confined to barracks. Marched in to 9th Training Bn, 6 March 1917. Found guilty, Durrington Camp, 26 March 1917, of being absent without leave in lying picquet parade when duly ordered to attend there, thus causing another soldier to act in his stead: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment no 2, and forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant; total forfeiture: 8 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 May 1917; joined 3rd Bn, in the field, 10 June 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 9 March 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 19 March 1918. Wounded in action, 4 May 1918 (shrapnel wound, arm and face); admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 5 May 1918, and transferred to 15th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to 2nd Australian General Hospital; to England, 13 May 1918, and admitted to No 1 Convalescent Depot; discharged to Rest Camp, 27 May 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 31 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 10 June 1918.
