War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 17 January 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 27 March 1917, and marched in to Australian Flying Corps Depot, Perham Downs. Transferred to 71st Squadron, Castle Bromwich, 2 April 1917. On Command, 41st Reserve Squadron, Doncaster, for instruction, 13 April 1917. On Command, course of instruction with 11th Training Squadron, Spittlegate, 5 July 1917. Posted to 68th Squadron, Harlaxton, 23 August 1917. Promoted Lieutenant, 12 October 1917. Admitted to Grove Military Hospital, Tooting, 27 October 1917 (not yet diagnosed); transferred to Cobham Hall Hospital, 2 November 1917; marched out to AFC Depot, 10 November 1917. Taken on strength, 30th Training Squadron, Fern Hill, 14 November 1917. On Command, Central Flying School, Upavon, 9 January 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 February 1918; taken on strength, 2nd Squadron, AFC, 21 February 1918. Killed in action, 4 June 1918. Statement, Red Cross File No 2200903G, Air Mechanic C.H. Been out on patrol and on returning was cantour [sic] chasing (flying very low) and he flew into a hill. Primrose and machine smashed up. Buried near where machine crashed. Primrose's uncle, Air Mechanic of no. 2 Squad, known as "Primmie" witnessed the burial. Informant has photo of grave with cross erected made out of an aeroplane propellor.
