Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a section in close support of the advancing infantry. He passed the infantry at the second objective, and advanced with the cavalry and tanks, coming into action within 200 yards of the final objective, where he engaged enemy machine guns and infantry in the open. He did splendid work.'

Bar to Military Cross

'He acted as artillery liaison officer with an attacking infantry battalion during the operations from 20th-25th September 1918, in the vicinity of Leverguier, and also during the operations of 5th October 1918, in front of Montbrehain. On both occasions, when the infantry advance was retarded by nests of enemy machine guns and field guns, he went out ahead of the attacking infantry, located hostile field guns and machine gun nests, and sent back information to his group enabling effective fire to be brought to bear on them to clear the way for the advance. He behaved most gallantly under heavy fire and rendered valuable service.'
