'At CHUIGNES, FRANCE, for period 22nd/26th August, 1918 for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. He was a vigorous, capable and untiring patrol leader. He led his patrols capably, showing skill, initiative and daring and it was due to information gathered from his patrol reports that his Company were enabled to advance so quickly and with so few casualties. He set an example to all ranks.'
